Shamshera’ didn’t work because content was not good: Ranbir Kapoor

Update : 10 Sep 2022, 00:11

Bollywood actor Ranbir Kapoor blamed the ‘bad content’ for the Box Office failure of his last release ‘Shamshera’.

At a promotional outing of his upcoming much-awaited film Brahmastra, Ranbir spoke about his last theatrical disaster. After a hiatus of four years, he returned to big screens fronting Shamshera alongside Sanjay Dutt and Vaani Kapoor. Unfortunately, the epic period drama film didn’t work at the box office. The actor is now ready for the fantasy adventurous film Brahmastra: Part One Shiva.

At the press conference media questioned the Sanju actor about the general air of negativity around the Hindi film industry and if he felt Bollywood films were being targeted unfairly. To this, the actor gave example of his own film Shamshera.

"I'll give my own example. I don't want to speak about other films. I had a film release a month-and-a-half ago, Shamshera. I didn't feel any negativity about it. If the film didn't run at the box office, it's only because the audience didn't like the film," said Ranbir.

He further added, "Eventually, it's about the content. If you make a good film, entertain people, of course they will go to the cinema and watch your films. They want to feel that different emotion, connect with characters and get entertained. So, if a film doesn't work, it is not for any other reason but because the content is not good. That's what I feel is the true answer."

After Shamshera's failure, director Karan penned a long note. He wrote, "My Dearest Shamshera, you are majestic the way you are. It is important for me to express myself on this platform because here is where all the love, the hate, the celebration and the humiliation exists for you. I want to unimaginably apologise to you for abandoning you for these past few days as I could not handle the hate and rage. My withdrawal was my weakness and there are no excuses for it. But now I am here, standing beside you hand in hand feeling proud and honoured that you are mine. Will face every thing together, the good the bad and the ugly. And a huge shout out to the Shamshera family, the cast and crew of Shamshera. The love, the blessings and the concern that has been showered upon us are the most precious and nobody can take that away from us. #Shamsheraismine #Shamshera (sic)"

Shamshera was released in July this year and turned out to be a huge disaster at the ticket window.
