Sheikh Russel Jr Chess competition concludes

Sheikh Russel Jr Chess competition has concluded on Saturday at Sheikh Russel Roller Skating Complex adjoining to Bangabandhu National Stadium.

"Sheikh Russel Jatiya Shishu Kishore Parishad" organized the two-day meet on occasion of Sheikh Russel’s birth day and Sheikh Russel Day on October 18, reports BSS.

State Minister for Youth and Sports Mohammad Zahid Ahsan Russel, MP, was the chief guest and distributed the prizes in the closing ceremony, presided by ‘Sheikh Russel Jatiya Shishu Kishore Parishad’s secretary general KM Shaheed Ullah.

Bangladesh Chess Federation’s general secretary Syed Shahabuddin Shamim and organisation’s organising secretary and Dhaka South City Corporation’s 20 no word councilor Farid Uddin Ahmed Ratan were present there as the special guests.

Around 350 budding chess players from 44 schools of the capital took part in four categories of the meet.    

Sheikh Russel’s, the youngest son of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, birth day is October 18 and the government declared October 18 as 'Sheikh Russel Day' last year.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's younger brother Sheikh Russel was born on October 18, 1964 at the historic Bangabandhu Bhaban in Dhanmondi. His father Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and most of his family members were brutally killed on August 15, 1975 when he was a fourth grade student of Sheikh Russel University Laboratory School.
