"Absolute invasion of privacy": Virat Kohli on leaked video of his hotel room

Update : 31 Oct 2022, 13:46

Former India captain Virat Kohli vented out his frustration on social media after his privacy was invaded in his hotel room at the Crown Perth in Perth, Australia on October 31.

Virat Kohli shared a video on instagram of his hotel room being invaded by the fans. In the video, a fan can be seen recording the empty hotel room of the Indian Cricketer as the cameraman can be seen panning the camera to Kohli’s closet, and bathroom to all of his personal items being recorded in the video.

Virat was disappointed by the “fanaticism and absolute invasion of privacy”

"I understand that fans get very happy and excited seeing their favourite players and get excited to meet them and I’ve always appreciated that. But this video here is appalling and it’s made me feel very paranoid about my privacy. If I cannot have privacy in my own hotel room, then where can I really expect any personal space at all?? I’m NOT okay with this kind of fanaticism and absolute invasion of privacy. Please respect people’s privacy and not treat them as a commodity for entertainment," the cricketer wrote on instagram.

Virat Kohli's wife and Bollywood actor Anushka Sharma also reacted to the post in a story and wrote “Have experienced a few incidents where some fans have shown no compassion or grace in the past but this really is the worst thing. An absolute disgrace and violation of a human being and anyone who sees this and thinks celebrity ho toh deal Karna padega should know that you are also part of the problem. Exercising some self control helps everyone. Also, if this is happening in your bedroom then where is the line?".

Australian batter David Warner, actors Varun Dhawan, Parineeti Chopra and Dino Morea among several other labelled this incident as 'horrible' and couldn't believe what they were seeing.

Virat Kohli is currently with the Indian Cricket Team in Australia for ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. The hotel has not issued any statement regarding the lack of security for the guests.
