Whatsapp will stop working on older android and ios phones from 2023

Update : 27 Dec 2022, 13:23

WhatsApp, one of the world’s leading messengers, announced that from 2023, it will no longer support mobile devices running an old operating system.

For users with mobile phones that have the Android operating system installed, with a version prior to 4.1, they will have to change the device if they want to have WhatsApp installed. Which means that to use the app they will have to have Android version 4.1 Jelly Bean or higher.

Version 4.1 of the Android operating system was released in 2012, so any mobile that has been purchased in the last 6 or 8 years will be able to receive WhatsApp updates during 2023.

In the case of iPhone users who have installed versions prior to iOS 12, released in 2018, they will not be able to enjoy WhatsApp either because it will stop working on December 31.

These requirements prevent the application from being used on some mobile devices that are still in use, as many users are unaware of the risks they run when using a device that is no longer supported. If it works and does what it should, the user usually doesn’t plan on switching to a new one.

From 2023, smartphone owners who are no longer eligible will have to buy a newer smartphone, otherwise they will be forced to abandon WhatsApp.
