Dhaka, KL set to sign MoU on hiring Bangladeshi workers

Update : 26 Dec 2021, 05:33

A memorandum of understanding (MoU) has been signed by Dhaka and Kuala Lumpur to begin labor recruiting from Bangladesh.

On Sunday, Datuk Seri M Saravanan, Malaysia's Human Resources Minister, and Imran Ahmed, Bangladesh's Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment Minister, signed a Memorandum of Understanding in Kuala Lumpur.

A four-member team led by minister Imran Ahmed departed Dhaka at 5 a.m. and arrived in Kuala Lumpur at 7 a.m. (local time). The reopening follows a three-year suspension due to allegations of syndication under the prior recruiting procedure. Since 2018, the Malaysian government has refused to hire Bangladeshi laborers. Ten Bangladeshi recruitment agencies were participating in sending personnel under a G2G plus agreement during that period. The Malaysian government approved an agreement with Bangladesh on the restart of labor recruiting on December 10.
