Opener Liton Das is all set to miss Bangladesh's opening game in Asia Cup after failing to recover from his illness.
Bangladesh will open their Asia Cup, taking on co-host Sri Lanka on Thursday at Pallekele, reports BSS.
Since he is yet to board the flight, there is no chance that he can play the opening game.
"He was supposed to board the flight today but unfortunately he is yet to recover from the fever he suffered all of a sudden," selector of Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) Habibul Bashar Sumon said on Tuesday.
"We are waiting for his update. When he will recover, he will board the flight. But it is certain he won't play the first game."
BCB's medical department said Liton had undergone a test today and his overall situation will depend on the result of this test.
As Liton is going to miss the first game, it means, Bangladesh would have to play two openers with limited International exposure. Naim Sheikh played only four ODIs while Tanzid Hasan Tamim is yet to make his debut.
But the BCB is hopeful that Liton will play the second match against Afghanistan in Lahore on September 3 and in that case, he will fly to Pakistan directly.
