An amateur cycling team set a Guinness World Record by riding 1,600 kilometers in a 48-hour on the occassion of 50 years of Bangladesh's independence. The world record-breaking event took place on December 10 at Purbachal, Dhaka.
The quartet of Dravid, Tanvir, Rakibul and Alauddin, members of the TeamBDC cycling team set the record by riding 1,670 kilometers in 48 hours. The team has been included into the Guinness Book of World Records as a result of this world record.
Dravid Alam, Tanvir Ahmed, Md. Alauddin, and Rakibul Islam are the world record-breaking cyclists. In 48 hours, they have cycled 1670.334 kilometers in relay system.
"We set the record after two years of preparation. It seems we get rid of a burden after many days. Now it is time to do something bigger,” said Cyclist Drabir Alam
None of the members of this group are professional cyclists. They established the record for cycling on December 8-10 in the eastern section of Dhaka under Cyclone Azwad's ferocious weather. The recognition by Guinness World Records came after a month.
On Saturday, Guinness World Records officials announced on their website that the team had established a new world record.
