Pakistan election results are beginning to come in, nearly 12 hours after polling for national and provincial assemblies ended.
The polls were marred by violence by armed groups and a widely criticised suspension of mobile phone services that prompted accusations of “political engineering”.
Initial projections reported on local media showed leads for many candidates affiliated with jailed former Prime Minister Imran Khan’s party.
Fazal Muhammad Khan is the latest PTI-affiliated candidate to win the National Assembly race in his constituency (NA-25 Charsadda-II), the electoral body says.
This means that the number of winning independent contenders backed by Imran Khan’s party has now risen to five.
