Shakhawat Ali Nobel, husband of actress Raima Islam Shimu, has admitted to killing her over conjugal dispute.
"During preliminary interrogation, Shimu's husband Sakhawat Ali Nobel confessed that he killed his wife. Shimu was assassinated as a result of a family feud", said Dhaka District Superintendent of Police (SP) Maruf Hossain Sardar.
"We've already seized the car which was used to carry Shimu's dismembered body to Hazratpur Bridge in Keraniganj. Nobel planned to bury the dismembered body of Shimu with the help of his friend Farhad. Besides, we've collected other evidence. Nobel is now in police custody. Process is going on to file a murder case against them," he said this at a press conference at his office on Tuesday afternoon.
On Monday night, Shimu's husband Nobel was arrested and interrogated by police on suspicion of complicity in Shimu's murder. According to police sources, Noble "admitted to the killing" after an overnight interrogation.
Farhad Hossain, Shimu's husband's friend, was also detained on allegations of aiding and abetting the murder.
A private car was seized when Shimu's dismissed body was murdered and dumped.
Shimu's brother lodged a case against six people, including Nobel, his friend Farhad and his driver regarding his sister's missing on January 16.
On Monday, police used information technology to recover a dead body from Keraniganj. Shimu's family was later able to identify the body.
Shimu lived with her husband and two children on the Green Road in the capital. Shimu debuted in the Dhallywood in Kazi Hayat’s ‘Bartaman’ in 1998. She has since worked on as many as 25 films.
