Bangladeshi youth Alif Mahmud has finally reached Mecca after walking for nine months. Alif Mahmud confirmed this in his facebook post.
He has walked all the way to Saudi Arabia to perform Hajj. On his way, Alif has travelled almost 8000 km over nine months, overcoming numerous challenges.
He left for Mecca from his village Batabaria in Cumilla's Nangalkot Upazila on July 8 last year.
He has reached Mecca after 270 days of walking through India, Pakistan, Iran,Iraq and UAE.
Regarding the decision to go to Saudi Arabia to perform Hajj, Alif said that he was fascinated by the fact that walking was the only way of trading and conducting business hundreds of years ago.
Although he initially wanted to go to Mecca by bicycle, he later decided to walk.
Bangladeshi expatriates in Saudi Arabia lauded Alif for his feat. Many people complimented him for taking a new approach to performing the Hajj.
Alif has previously travelled to all 64 districts of Bangladesh on bicycle.
