The Bangladesh Film Artistes' Association's appellate board has named actor Nipun Akter as the new general secretary. The board has cancelled the candidacy of actor Zayed Khan, who was previously acting as general secretary amid allegations that he paid members to vote for him.
Sohanur Rahman Sohan, Chairman of the Appellate Board of Bangladesh Film Artistes' Association made the announcements at Bangladesh Film Development Corporation on Saturday afternoon, February 5th.
Director Sohanur Rahman Sohan, also stated that Chunnu's nomination for executive member was also revoked due to the same allegations.
The Social Welfare Ministry directed Sohan to convene the meeting in response to Nipun's petition.
Zayed threatened to sue the appeals board, but Nipun lauded the judgment as a "triumph of truth."
A group of film artists held a protest against the newly elected general secretary, Zayed Khan, ahead to the conference.
On Saturday, Nipun appeared in front of the board, but Zayed remained absent.
In an election, actor Ilias Kanchan was elected president of the Bangladesh Film Artistes' Association and actor Zayed Khan was re-elected as general secretary on January 28.
