Bank accounts of Shakib, wife frozen

Update : 07 Nov 2024, 12:19

The Bangladesh Financial Intelligence Unit (BFIU) has frozen all bank accounts of former national cricket captain Shakib Al Hasan.

A BFIU official confirmed the matter to the media last night.

Earlier, on October 2, the BFIU had requested account information for Shakib, his wife Umm Ahmed Shishir, and their businesses as part of an investigation into alleged capital market manipulation and financial irregularities.

Following the inquiry, the government ordered BFIU to freeze Shakib's accounts.

On September 24, the Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC) fined Shakib Tk 50 lakh for breaching securities laws by manipulating shares of Paramount Insurance.

Shakib, also a former Awami League MP for Magura-1, faced a murder accusation in a case filed at Adabar police station after Sheikh Hasina's government was overthrown on August 5.

Shakib is currently in the United States with his family.
