'Govt ready to control prices ahead of Ramadan'

The government is working to control market prices during the upcoming Ramadan, the holy month for the Muslims across the world, said Sheikh Bashir Uddin, Advisor to the Ministry of Commerce and the Ministry of Textiles and Jute.

He assured that people will not face difficulties during the holy month.

Speaking on Thursday in a meeting held at the Dinajpur District Commissioner’s conference room with district administration officials, dignitaries, and TCB dealers, the advisor shared these updates.

The Commerce Advisor mentioned that market prices are currently under government control. Efforts are ongoing to bring the prices of essentials like oil, sugar, and flour further under consumer affordability.

He also highlighted that there are currently 57 lakh members listed under the Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB), with an additional 6 lakh members set to be added soon.

The meeting was chaired by Dinajpur District Commissioner Rafiqul Islam and attended by key figures, including TCB Chairman Brigadier General Mustafa Iqbal, newly appointed Chairman Brigadier General Mohammad Faisal Azad, Dinajpur Police Superintendent Nazmul Hasan, District BNP Vice-President Mohammad Khalekuzzaman Babu, Dinajpur Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Principal Anisur Rahman, and Dinajpur Chamber President Reza Humayun Farooq Chowdhury Shamim, among others.
