How can winter go by without the chill? Over the past few days, residents of the capital barely felt the true essence of the season. However, this morning, winter seemed to have returned in full force.
Wrapped in a thick blanket of fog, the cold has made its presence unmistakable in Dhaka. Compared to recent days, the chill feels noticeably sharper today.
On Thursday morning areas like Karwan Bazar, Tejgaon, Mohakhali, Uttara, the Airport, Khilkhet, and their surroundings were all shrouded in dense fog.
Observations on the ground revealed that from early dawn until morning, the fog was so dense that even in daylight, seeing distant objects clearly was a challenge. While the visibility improved somewhat as the day advanced, the cold remained more biting than usual.
The combination of thick fog and intense cold has disrupted the rhythm of urban life. Office-goers and schoolchildren have faced considerable difficulties, while drivers have been forced to use headlights and drive slowly to prevent accidents.
This foggy condition isn't limited to Dhaka alone. Northern parts of the country are also experiencing its effects. With the sun taking longer to rise, temperatures in many areas have dropped significantly, leaving people in districts like Dinajpur and Kurigram struggling to cope with the cold.
The latest bulletin from the Meteorological Department indicates that the weather across the country will likely remain dry with partly cloudy skies for the next 24 hours, starting from 9am on Thursday.
Moderate to dense fog may occur in parts of the northwestern region during the late night and morning hours, while light to moderate fog may persist in other areas of the country, lingering in some places until noon.
Nationwide, temperatures during both the day and night are expected to rise slightly. However, a drop in temperatures is predicted during the early part of the following five-day period, according to the department.
