Friday marked the final day of the month-long Dhaka International Trade Fair. Being both the last day of the fair and a weekend, the Bangladesh-China Friendship Exhibition Center in Purbachal saw an overwhelming number of visitors.
Buyers started flocking to the fair from the early hours of the day, and as the day progressed, the crowd only grew larger.
By the afternoon, the venue was packed with visitors. Many were seen purchasing household items, food, electronics, and crockery, as various stalls were offering special discounts and deals.
One visitor who came with his family remarked that the experience at the fair in Agargaon was different, but this new location was not bad either. He suggested that increasing the number of international stalls could attract even more visitors.
On the final day, several stalls were offering discounts ranging from 20% to 30%, leading to a surge in sales. However, despite the increase in transactions, vendors expressed concerns about not making significant profits. Some sellers requested an extension of the fair, but the authorities did not approve it.
The Dhaka International Trade Fair was inaugurated on January 1 by Chief Advisor Muhammad Yunus. After a month-long run, Trade Advisor Sheikh Bashiruddin officially announced the fair's conclusion on Friday evening. However, the fair remained open until 10 PM on its final day.
Since 1995, the Ministry of Commerce and the Export Promotion Bureau (EPB) jointly organized the trade fair in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar to promote and market domestic products. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the fair was not held in 2021. In 2022, under pandemic restrictions, the fair was hosted for the first time at the Bangladesh-China Friendship Exhibition Center in Purbachal.
