As a recognition of significant contributions in various fields, this year, 18 distinguished individuals and one group will be awarded the Ekushey Padak.
Chief Adviser Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus will present the awards at a special ceremony today, at the Osmani Memorial Auditorium in the capital.
The award ceremony will commence at 11:00 AM and will be broadcast live by Bangladesh Television (BTV). Yesterday (Wednesday), the Senior Assistant Press Secretary to the Chief Adviser, Fayez Ahmed, confirmed this information in a statement.
Among this year’s Ekushey Padak recipients, the awardees in the film category include Azizur Rahman (posthumous). In music, the awardees are Ustad Nirad Baron Barua (posthumous) and Ferdous Ara. In photography, Nasir Ali Mamun will be honored, while Rokeya Sultana has been recognized for her contributions to painting.
In journalism, Mahfuz Ullah (posthumous) has been selected, while Moidul Hasan will receive the award for research. In education, the recipient is Dr. Niaz Zaman.
For science and technology, the awardees include Mehdi Hasan Khan (team leader), Rifat Nabi (team member), Md. Tanbin Islam Siam (team member), and Shabab Mustafa (team member).
Additionally, in social work, Mohammad Yusuf Chowdhury (posthumous) has been honored. In language and literature, Helal Hafiz (posthumous) and Shahidul Zahir (posthumous) have been recognized.
In the field of journalism and human rights, Mahmudur Rahman has been selected, while Dr. Shahidul Alam has been awarded for culture and education. In sports, the Bangladesh National Women’s Football Team has been honored with the Ekushey Padak.
The Government of Bangladesh presents the Ekushey Padak every year in memory of the martyrs of the Language Movement.
Since its inception in 1976, this prestigious honor has been awarded to eminent writers, artists, educators, researchers, journalists, language movement activists, economists, and social workers in recognition of their contributions.
The ceremony honoring this year’s Ekushey Padak recipients will be attended by distinguished personalities of the country, as well as senior officials from the government and administration.
