Heatwave conditions to grip country for days

Due to reduced monsoon activity, rainfall is likely to decrease in different parts of the country over the next four days, according to the Meteorological Department.

During this period, light to moderate rain may occur in some areas, but sweltering heat is expected to persist across the country.

These updates were provided in the regular weather forecast issued on Saturday (August 16).

The Met Office stated that from Saturday to Tuesday, rainfall will remain significantly low. Temperatures may rise during this time, leading to hot and humid conditions.

Meteorologist Hafizur Rahman said, “The monsoon is currently less active, so rainfall is occurring only in isolated places. However, heavy rainfall may also occur in some areas.”

He added that rainfall is expected to increase across the country from Tuesday, August 20.

Today (Saturday), temporary gusty winds accompanied by light to moderate showers or thundershowers are likely in many places of Dhaka, Mymensingh, Barishal, Chattogram, and Sylhet divisions, and in some parts of Rangpur, Rajshahi, and Khulna divisions. Day and night temperatures across the country are expected to remain nearly unchanged.

On Saturday, the lowest temperature in the country was recorded at 24.6°C in Bandarban. Between 6 AM Friday and 6 AM Saturday, the highest rainfall of 43 millimeters was also recorded in Bandarban.
