Bangladesh, Pakistan cement ties with fresh agreements

Following a bilateral meeting between Interim Government’s Foreign Affairs Advisor Mohammad Touhid Hossain and Pakistan’s visiting Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, an agreement, four Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs), and a program have been signed between the two countries.

The signing took place on Sunday afternoon at a hotel in Dhaka. 

Earlier in the day, a foreign minister-level bilateral meeting was held. The meeting was led by Bangladesh’s Foreign Affairs Advisor, Touhid Hossain, while Pakistan was represented by Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar.

Agreement Signed:

An agreement was signed to waive visa requirements for government and diplomatic passport holders of both countries.

MoUs Signed:

The signed MoUs include:

  • Formation of a Joint Working Group on trade between the two countries.

  • Cooperation between the Foreign Service Academies of both countries.

  • Cooperation between the state-run news agencies of both countries (BSS and APP).

  • Collaboration between Bangladesh Institute of International and Strategic Studies (BIISS) and Pakistan’s Institute of Strategic Studies Islamabad (ISSI).

Program Signed:

A Cultural Exchange Program (CEP) was signed between Bangladesh and Pakistan.

Earlier that morning, Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar had a breakfast meeting with Bangladesh’s Trade Advisor Sheikh Bashiruddin.
