Speaking at the event, Verma also stressed on the deep-rooted cultural, historical, and emotional ties between India and Bangladesh.
He highlighted the shared sacrifices of the 1971 Liberation War and common heritage in language, literature, art, music, and festivals.
“Durga Puja is one such shared heritage,” Verma noted, adding that the festivities serve as a reminder that cultural bonds between the two nations are “older and deeper than our national boundaries.” He underlined that the strength of bilateral relations lies in “our people, their shared traditions, and mutual respect.”
Calling Durga Puja a festival of devotion, culture, inclusivity, and compassion, he said it symbolizes the victory of good over evil and light over darkness.
“We pray that this Durga Puja brings new hopes to us all and inspires us to build an even better future for our relations,” he added.
Concluding his remarks, the High Commissioner offered prayers to Goddess Durga for wisdom, peace, prosperity, and the continued strengthening of bonds between India and Bangladesh.
