The government has approved the list of public holidays for the year 2026. On Thursday, Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam announced this information at a press conference following a meeting of the Advisory Council.
Shafiqul Alam stated that the Advisory Council approved the list of public holidays for 2026 on Thursday. Next year, there will be a total of 28 holidays, including executive orders and general holidays. Among them, 9 days fall on Fridays and Saturdays, so the main holidays will total 17 days.
Meanwhile, the interim government has also given final approval to the draft of the Enforced Disappearance Prevention, Remedy, and Protection Ordinance, 2025. The proposed law includes provisions for severe punishment, including the death penalty, for the crime of enforced disappearance.
The draft ordinance was given final approval at the Advisory Council meeting held on Thursday, chaired by Chief Adviser Dr. Muhammad Yunus.
