Khaleda Zia under intensive care

BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia, who is currently undergoing treatment, is in a very critical condition. She is passing through a critical moment, said Dr. AZM Zahid Hossain, a member of the medical board formed for her treatment and a member of the BNP Standing Committee.

Responding to journalists’ questions about the latest condition of Khaleda Zia’s health, the physician said, “Naturally, it cannot be said that her condition has improved… Her condition is extremely critical, and she is going through a critical phase.”

Dr. AZM Zahid Hossain briefed journalists on the ongoing treatment of Khaleda Zia. The briefing was held without prior announcement outside Evercare Hospital in the capital at around 12:30 am on Saturday night.

He said, “In fact, national leader Begum Khaleda Zia was admitted here (Evercare Hospital) on November 23. After her admission, her physical condition deteriorated significantly.” He added that due to the continuous decline in her health, Khaleda Zia was moved from a cabin to the CCU and later to the ICU.

Regarding her treatment, the medical board member said that both local and foreign physicians are providing treatment to the BNP Chairperson, with her daughter-in-law, Dr. Zubaida Rahman, also involved.

After returning from London, the capital of the United Kingdom, last Thursday following 17 years, Tarique Rahman visited the hospital to see his mother. After a day full of various engagements on Saturday, he again went to see her. He stayed there for more than two hours and left the hospital at 11:58 pm.

Since November 23, Khaleda Zia has been receiving treatment at Evercare Hospital in the capital. Her treatment is being carried out under a medical board led by Professor Shahabuddin Talukder, comprising both local and foreign specialists.

Among Khaleda Zia’s various health complications, diabetes, kidney, heart, and lung problems have been fluctuating. As part of her regular treatment, several medical tests are being conducted routinely.

In view of her health condition, the BNP had said that she should be taken abroad for advanced treatment, but ultimately this was not possible. As her physical condition is not suitable for air travel, her treatment is continuing in the country.
