After a two-month suspension, the Election Commission (EC) has resumed the National Identity Card (NID) correction services.
The service was reopened for the general public from Sunday afternoon (25 January).
NID Director General ASM Humayun Kabir confirmed the development, saying that the voter list update process has been completed. From now on, NID corrections can be made normally as before.
Explaining why the service had remained suspended for so long, the Director General said that major tasks were underway ahead of the upcoming election, including registration for postal voting (OCV and IPCV) and finalizing candidate lists. During these complex technical processes, the NID correction database was temporarily shut down. With those tasks now successfully completed, normal operations have resumed.
It may be noted that the EC had suspended the service from 24 November last year to ensure data security related to the national election and to prevent any misuse or unauthorized changes to NID information. Under new directives, the service has now been reopened to the public.
Citizens can now apply for corrections or changes to their information by following the prescribed procedures.
