Sadaqatul Fitr rates announced

In Bangladesh, the rate of Sadaqatul Fitr (Fitra) for Ramadan has been set at a minimum of Tk 110 and a maximum of Tk 2,805 per person. The minimum and maximum rates remain the same as last year (2025).

The rates for the year 1447 Hijri were fixed on Wednesday (25 February) at a meeting of the National Sadaqatul Fitr Determination Committee held at the conference room of the Islamic Foundation Bangladesh at Baitul Mukarram National Mosque in the capital.

The meeting was chaired by Mufti Maulana Abdul Malek, Chairman of the Sadaqatul Fitr Determination Committee and Khatib of Baitul Mukarram National Mosque. Members of the committee and prominent Islamic scholars were present at the meeting. After the meeting, the chairman informed journalists of the determined Fitra rates.

The committee unanimously decided that according to Islamic Shariah, Muslims may pay Fitra by distributing a specified quantity or its market value of any one of the following items among the poor, according to their ability: wheat, flour, barley, dates, raisins, or cheese.

For wheat and flour, the required amount is 1 kilogram and 650 grams (half a sa’). For dates, raisins, cheese, and barley, the required amount is 3 kilograms and 300 grams (one sa’) to fulfill Sadaqatul Fitr.

The minimum and maximum Fitra amounts were determined based on the current market prices of these commodities.

Mufti Maulana Abdul Malek stated that for high-quality flour or wheat, the Fitra is 1 kilogram and 650 grams (half a sa’) or its market value of Tk 110 (calculated at Tk 65 per kilogram). For barley, it is 3 kilograms and 300 grams (one sa’) or Tk 595 (calculated at Tk 180 per kilogram).

Additionally, Fitra may be paid with 3 kilograms and 300 grams of raisins at Tk 800 per kilogram, amounting to Tk 2,640. For dates, it is 3 kilograms and 300 grams or Tk 2,475 (calculated at Tk 750 per kilogram). For cheese, it is 3 kilograms and 300 grams or Tk 2,805 (calculated at Tk 850 per kilogram).

The chairman noted that retail market prices may vary locally, and paying according to local market prices will also fulfill the obligation of Fitra.

A statement on behalf of Abdul Malek was read by Mohammad Harunur Rashid, Director of the Religious Preaching and Culture Division of the Islamic Foundation.

If a person possesses wealth equal to or above the nisab amount (equivalent to 7.5 tolas of gold or 52.5 tolas of silver) at dawn on the day of Eid, it becomes obligatory for them to pay Sadaqatul Fitr on behalf of themselves and their minor children or dependents. Fitra must be paid before going to the Eid prayer.

Subject to moon sighting, Muslims are expected to celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr, the largest religious festival, on March 20 or 21.
