WASA hikes ATM water tariff

The price of water supplied from ATM booths of Dhaka WASA in the capital has been increased. The new rate came into effect on Sunday (March 1).

From now on, customers will have to pay 1 taka per liter (including VAT and tax), which was previously 0.80 taka.

The price hike was announced in an office order signed on February 26 by S M Jahangir Hossain, Secretary of Dhaka WASA. The order stated that the decision was made at the 14th meeting of the organization’s “Performance Support Committee” held on January 28. Due to increased operation and maintenance costs of the booths, the price has been raised from 0.80 taka to 1 taka per liter.

WASA officials said the adjustment was made because of the current global situation and the rising costs of operating the ATM booths.

It is worth noting that earlier, on August 1, 2023, the price of water from Dhaka WASA ATM booths had been doubled—from 0.40 taka to 0.80 taka per liter. Within just two and a half years, the price has been increased again.

Several hundred thousand customers collect affordable purified water using cards from these ATM booths located at various intersections across the capital. With the new rate in effect, they will now have to pay an additional 0.20 taka per liter.
