Nation celebrates Eid-ul-Fitr

After a month of fasting, the holy festival of Eid-ul-Fitr is being celebrated across the country on Saturday. Preparations for Eid congregational prayers have been completed in the capital and other parts of the country in an atmosphere of religious solemnity, joy, and festivity.

The main Eid congregation in the capital will be held at the National Eidgah Ground at 8:30 AM. However, if the weather is unfavorable, the main congregation will instead be held at the National Mosque, Baitul Mukarram, at 9:00 AM.

The main prayer will be led by the khatib of Baitul Mukarram, Mufti Muhammad Abdul Malek. As an alternative, Islamic Foundation’s mufassir Dr. Maulana Md. Abu Saleh Patwari will be prepared to lead.

Strict security measures have been taken at the Eidgah Ground and surrounding areas. CCTV surveillance, archways, metal detectors, dog squads, and special teams will be deployed. Barricades have been set up at key intersections to control traffic.

Dhaka Metropolitan Police stated that although there is no specific security threat, maximum vigilance has been maintained.

The President, Prime Minister, cabinet members, judges, and diplomats are expected to attend the main congregation at the National Eidgah. Arrangements have been made for approximately 35,000 worshippers, including separate prayer spaces, entrances, and ablution facilities for women.

Eid congregations are also being held in all divisions, districts, and upazilas across the country. National flags have been hoisted on government and private buildings, with decorative lighting and special events organized.

Additionally, improved meals have been arranged in hospitals, prisons, orphanages, and elderly care homes. Underprivileged children have been given free entry to parks and tourist attractions.
