Marking the begining of Bengali New Year 1433, the traditional Boishakhi procession began from the Faculty of Fine Arts of Dhaka University. The procession, which started at 9:00 AM on Tuesday (April 14), saw participation from people of various ages and professions.
Colorful masks, large motifs, and diverse displays of folk art were featured in the procession that emerged from the Faculty of Fine Arts at Dhaka University. The entire area became vibrant with the massive presence of participants.
Strict security measures were taken around the procession to ensure safety. Alongside law enforcement agencies, various security organizations monitored the overall situation.
Earlier in the morning, the New Year’s dawn celebration was held under the banyan tree at Ramna, where the song “Jago Alok-Logone” was performed in unison to welcome the new year. A total of 22 songs were presented during the approximately two-hour event.
Large crowds were visible at different places across the capital centered around the New Year celebrations. For many, this is not just a cultural event, but an emotional occasion to reconnect with their roots.
Participants in the procession also voiced protests against recent attacks on Baul artists. At the same time, they expressed their hope for a secular and culturally rich Bangladesh.
