Drivers who violate traffic laws will now have points deducted from their driving licenses. If the points reach zero, there will be a risk of the license being suspended or cancelled. To implement this system, an app called the “Road Safety Penalty System (RSPS)” is set to be launched nationwide.
On Tuesday (May 5), the Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) announced this in a statement.
According to BRTA, under Section 11(1) of the Road Transport Act, 2018, each driving license will have 12 allocated points. As per Schedule 4 of the Road Transport Rules, 2022, these points will be deducted for specific traffic offenses.
Additionally, Sections 66 to 106 of the law include provisions for fines, imprisonment, and point deductions for various offenses.
To ensure effective implementation and enforcement of the law, the “Road Safety Penalty System” (RSPS) app has been developed and will soon be launched simultaneously across the country.
BRTA further stated that if the same type of offense is repeated or if all allocated points are exhausted, the driver’s license may be suspended, withdrawn, or cancelled.
In this situation, the authority has urged all drivers to follow road transport laws and regulations and drive responsibly.
