India reopens doors to Bangladeshi tourists

After nearly two years, India has reopened tourist visas for Bangladeshi citizens. Applications can be submitted starting June 28, and visa issuance will begin on July 1.

On Thursday (June 25), India's newly appointed High Commissioner to Bangladesh, Dinesh Trivedi, shared this information with journalists after visiting the Indian Visa Application Centre at Jamuna Future Park in the capital, Dhaka.

He stated that, in addition to tourist visas, medical visa services for Bangladeshi citizens will continue to be available. Applicants will be able to receive services through five visa centers located in Dhaka, Chattogram, Rajshahi, Khulna, and Sylhet.

The High Commissioner also said that there are plans to increase the number of visa centers in the future. Additionally, special facilities will be introduced for medical visa applicants, children, and persons with disabilities.

Meanwhile, according to a statement from Ministry of External Affairs, the Government of India has granted Dinesh Trivedi the rank and status equivalent to that of a minister.

The decision to resume tourist visas for Bangladeshi travelers is expected to further strengthen people-to-people connections and tourism activities between Bangladesh and India.
