The Election Commission (EC) has announced the indefinite suspension of its emergency National Identity Card (NID) correction services previously provided through the Election Training Institute (ETI). From now on, these correction services must be obtained through local election offices. EC officials confirmed this information on Monday (July 6).
According to an official order signed by Md. Saiful Islam, Director (Operations) of the National Identity Registration Wing, all NID correction services at the ETI building have been temporarily suspended, except for Category 'Gha' (ঘ) applications, which can only be resolved at the Director General level. Until further notice, services for the following six categories—Ka-1 (ক-১), Ka (ক), Kha-1 (খ-১), Kha (খ), Ga-1 (গ-১), and Ga (গ)—will remain suspended at the ETI. In addition, applications that are eligible for online submission will no longer be accepted in hard-copy form.
Under the EC's new decision, these correction applications will now be processed by election officials at different administrative levels. Category K-1 applications will be handled by Assistant Thana or Upazila Election Officers, while Category K applications will fall under the authority of Thana or Upazila Election Officers.
At the district level, Category Kh-1 applications will be processed by Additional District Election Officers, while Category Kh applications will be handled by District Election Officers. Similarly, at the regional level, Category G-1 applications will be processed by Additional Regional Election Officers, and Category G applications will be handled by Regional Election Officers.
Previously, Category Ka-1, Ka, Kha-1, and Kh correction applications were processed on an emergency basis at the ETI building. As a result of the Commission's new decision, applicants will now need to visit their respective local election offices to complete the necessary NID correction procedures.
