Four people were killed and another was critically injured in a collision between a passenger bus and a private car in Gazaria upazila of Munshiganj on Saturday.
The deceased were not immediately identified, but they were all confirmed to be in the car.
The accident occurred around 2:38pm near Jamaldi Bus Stand on the Dhaka-Chattogram Highway.
Police said the “New Baleshwar” bus was heading to Chattogram from Dhaka when it collided with the private car, which was returning to Dhaka after a lunch trip to Miami Restaurant.
The car had travelled some distance on the wrong side before attempting a U-turn. The bus hit the car and overturned on the road median, while the car was badly damaged.
Muhammad Shafiqul Islam, deputy assistant director of Munshiganj Fire Service and Civil Defence, said two rescue units from Gazaria Fire Station rushed to the spot and began rescue operations.
He said the private car driver died on the spot. His body was recovered and handed over to highway police.
Four injured people were later taken to Bhoberchar Upazila Health Complex, where doctors declared three of them dead, Shafiqul said.
The other injured person was referred to Dhaka in critical condition for better treatment.
