Police have detained three people for questioning in connection with the murder of a 13-year-old boy, the only son of KM Firoz Shahriar and Dr Nahida Begum, an associate professor of the Bangla Department at Comilla University.
The detainees have been identified as Tuhin, Anas and Fahim.
Mohammad Rakibul Islam, officer-in-charge (OC) of Cumilla Sadar South Police Station, said the three were detained for questioning as part of the investigation.
“Our operation is ongoing,” he said.
Police said Tuhin was detained around 3:30pm on Saturday. CCTV footage showed him with the victim, Yashat Shahriar Oprotim, in an area of the Comilla University campus, where they reportedly stayed for about an hour.
Anas was detained around 7pm, while Fahim was detained around 7:30pm, police said.
The body of Oprotim, who had been missing since Friday, was recovered from a jungle in the Kotbari area of the Cumilla district on Saturday.
According to police, Oprotim left his home in the Kotbari area under Sadar Dakshin Police Station around 3:30pm on Friday, carrying his mother’s iPhone to take photographs with his friends.
He did not return home, prompting his father to file a general diary with Sadar Dakshin Police Station on Friday night.
Police later recovered his body from the jungle.
“The boy had severe injury marks on his head. We are investigating the incident,” the OC said.
