Bus fares have been increased by 17 paisa per kilometre following the recent hike in fuel prices, Road Transport and Bridges Minister Shaikh Rabiul Alam said on Tuesday.
The fare for buses and minibuses in Dhaka and Chattogram metropolitan areas has been raised from Tk 2.53 to Tk 2.70 per kilometre, he said while talking to reporters after a meeting with transport owners.
For long-distance routes, the fare has gone up from Tk 2.23 to Tk 2.40 per kilometre.
In areas under the Dhaka Transport Coordination Authority (DTCA), the bus fare has been increased from Tk 2.43 to Tk 2.60 per kilometre.
A gazette notification fixing the new fares is scheduled for Tuesday, and the revised fares will come into effect from the same day, the minister said.
On September 20, the government hiked the prices of all four major liquid fuels by Tk 20 per litre with effect from Monday.
As per the latest adjustments, the price has been risen to Tk 135 per litre for diesel, Tk 155 for kerosene, Tk 160 for petrol and Tk 165 for octane.
