In a historic move of FIFA, Stéphanie Frappart of France, Rwanda’s Salima Mukansanga and Yoshimi Yamashita of Japan, three women, have been chosen among the 36 referees to officiate at the World Cup Qatar 2022.
Neuza Back of Brazil, Mexico’s Karen Díaz Medina and Kathryn Nesbitt from the United States were picked in the group of assistants that will run the line and flag for offside in the tournament.
The trio has already proved their skills, experience and capability to operate the matches of the big tournament being staged in the conservative Gulf state.
Chairman of FIFA Referees Committee Pierluigi Collina said, "We have put emphasis on a particular issue here and this is capability. Being a man or woman is not a big deal here."
