Trawler sinks in Bay of Bengal, 3 fishermen missing

Three people, including two fishermen, went missing on Friday after twenty small and large fishing trawlers sunk in the Bay of Bengal. The incident took place at around 10 pm on Friday when a sudden storm struck about 45 km from Dublar Char in the eastern Sundarbans. Besides, a large number of fishes of Dublarchar have been destroyed in the rains.

"20 fishing boats of Dublarchar, which were fishing in the sea, sank in a sudden storm on Friday night. Two fishermen have gone missing in the incident. The missing fishermen are Mofizul (28) of Islamabad, Rampal upazila and Shahinur (25) of Durgapur village," said Kamal Uddin, President of Dubla Fishermen Group.

"The navy, coast guard and forest department has launched an operation at sea on Saturday morning to rescue the missing fishermen and the sunken trawlers. At the same time, rescue operations are being carried out with about one hundred trawlers of Dublar Char", said Prahlad Chandra Roy, officer-in-charge of the Forest Department's of Dubla Shutki(dried fish) Palli patrol outpost.
