The planned trip of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia to London for medical treatment has been postponed due to her current health condition. She was scheduled to depart for London on Friday, but her doctors advised against travel given her physical state.
BNP’s UK branch President M.A. Malek informed the media that, despite securing a specialized air ambulance and obtaining a visa, the decision was made on medical grounds. Khaleda’s son, BNP Acting Chairperson Tarique Rahman, and the entire family had been awaiting her arrival in London.
Earlier, her personal physician and BNP Standing Committee member Professor Dr. A.Z.M. Zahid Hossain had announced that Khaleda Zia would depart for London on November 8 (Friday). The plan included a stopover in London before continuing to a multidisciplinary medical center, possibly in the U.S. or Germany.
In preparation for her trip, BNP and her family arranged a long-distance specialized air ambulance. Sixteen visas were also secured for her medical team and support staff, including seven doctors, three nurses, and family members, such as the widow of her late son Arafat Rahman Koko, Sharmila Rahman Sithi, and two long-time domestic staff.
The 79-year-old former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia is suffering from multiple health issues, including liver cirrhosis, heart disease, lung problems, arthritis, kidney complications, diabetes, and eye issues. She has frequently received treatment at Dhaka’s Evercare Hospital under the supervision of a board of specialists.
