Starting from Sunday, eggs will be sold at affordable prices at 13 locations across Dhaka’s two city corporations, said Mohammad Alim Akhtar Khan, Director General of the Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection.

He came up with the matter while speaking at a mock parliament on Saturday titled past market instability to syndicates formed by previous governments.

He also highlighted the need for good governance to break these syndicates.

The program will operate at seven locations in Dhaka South City Corporation and six in Dhaka North City Corporation, ensuring affordable eggs for consumers.

Khan expressed optimism that the market stability will continue during the upcoming Ramadan.

The Directorate identified distribution points for Dhaka North at Tejgaon Bazar, Mirpur-1, Mirpur-10, Mohammadpur Krishi Market, Sadek Khan Krishi Market, and Uttara-10 (Khamarbari Road), and for Dhaka South at Kaptan Bazar, New Market, Khilgaon, Jurain, Konapara Sarulia, Shanir Akhra, and Chittagong Road.

Daily, 2 million eggs will be supplied directly from producers to consumers through agents under city corporation oversight, with Tejgaon Bazar and Kaptan Bazar receiving 650,000 each and the remaining 11 locations sharing 700,000 eggs.
