Panchagarh shivers as mercury drops to 12°C

Winter has firmly set in Panchagarh, the northernmost district of Bangladesh. Over the past three days, the temperature in the district hovered around 13 degrees Celsius.

However, at 6 am on Thursday, the Tetulia Weather Observatory recorded a temperature of 12.2 degrees Celsius.

Russel Shah, the acting officer of Panchagarh’s first-class Tetulia Weather Observatory, shared this information on Thursday.

He mentioned that although the lowest temperature of the season was recorded at 13 degrees over the past three days, it dropped further to 12.2 degrees Celsius at dawn on Thursday. The temperature is expected to decrease further in the coming days.

Meanwhile, visits to various areas in the morning revealed that despite sunlight breaking through the fog, the cold was biting. Nevertheless, stone workers, day laborers, tea garden workers, and other laborers were seen heading to their workplaces, braving the cold.

Several local farmers said with the arrival of winter, they harvest leaves and vegetables like cabbage, coriander leaves, and gourds in the early morning. However, it the dew on the leaves feels icy cold, almost numbing their hands, they said.
