The police have announced strict security measures for Christmas and New Year’s Eve, commonly known as Thirty-First Night.
As part of these efforts, the use of firecrackers, fireworks, and flying lanterns will remain prohibited during both occasions.
These decisions were made during a meeting on security and law enforcement held at the police headquarters on Tuesday.
The meeting, chaired by Additional IG (Administration) Md. Alamgir Alam, focused on ensuring a safe and uninterrupted celebration of the festivals.
According to a press release from the police headquarters, measures include the deployment of bomb disposal units, crime scene vans, quick response teams, and SWAT teams at strategic locations.
Cyber monitoring and patrolling will also be intensified to take immediate action against any attempts to disrupt harmony through social media.
For churches, law enforcement agencies will coordinate with organizers, who are encouraged to appoint volunteers and ensure adequate lighting, generators, or charger lights.
Additionally, security will be heightened in tourist areas across the country, including Cox’s Bazar and Kuakata, to maintain order during Thirty-First Night celebrations.
The meeting was attended by key officials, including Additional IGP (Crime and Operations) Md. Akram Hossain, Additional IGP of Special Branch Khondaker Rafiqul Islam, as well as community representatives like Father Albert Rosario, Pastor of St. Mary’s Cathedral Church, and Nirmal Rosario, President of the Bangladesh Christian Association.
