Panama Sonamasjid Port Link Ltd, the administrator of Sonamasjid land port, is implementing renewable solar energy, a cold storage freezer, and a rainwater harvest reservoir.
It is the country's second-largest land port, operated by the Bangladesh Land Port Authority and located in Chapainawabganj's Shibganj Upazila.
At the far end of the harbor is the Mahdipur checkpoint in India's Malda district.
According to a press release, 300/350 trucks of various types of goods are imported and 100/150 trucks of goods are exported through this port every day.
In addition, every day, 400–500 Bangladeshi trucks bring commodities to the port, employing over 5000 workers.
For administrative and port security purposes, an uninterrupted power supply is essential including handling goods and storing goods in the warehouse.
Maintaining the proper capacity of the port is difficult without an uninterrupted power supply.
The Sonamasjid Port Link Authority has added renewable solar energy in response to increased imports and exports and in accordance with government policy.
The necessary infrastructure, including solar panel installation, has already been built.
Solar panels are assisting in the storage of products at the port for newly developed cold storage and in the implementation of port automation.
As a result, the port has gained more capacity in cargo handling, port management, cargo storage, and cargo handling.
Currently, the port offers high-quality services to importers and exporters as well as other port users.
