Bangladesh to observe Shab-e-Miraj tonight (February 28) with due religious fervour.
Shab e Meraj and sometimes known as Al-Isra Wal-Miraj, Lailat al Miraj, Isra and Miraj, and the Prophet's Ascension, it falls within Rajab, the seventh month of the Islamic calendar. Shab E' Meraj is believed to occur on the 27th night of the holy month of Rajab.
The event marks a miraculous experience that was bestowed upon the prophet Muhammad. The Muslims every year observe the Shab-e-Meraj on 27th of Rajab (Islamic calendar), the night the Holy Prophet (PBUH) embarked on a special journey to meet Allah Almighty, crossing seven skies riding the heavenly ‘al-Buraq’.
On the same night, Allah, the exalted, ordained the obligatory namaz upon Muslims. At first, the stipulation was 50 daily prayers but Allah at his Prophet's request gradually reduced that number to five.
Muslim devotees will offer special prayers at mosques and homes seeking blessings of Allah for the welfare of the entire nation and the Muslim Ummah.
