Crescent Moon Sighted in Saudi Arabia, Eid-ul-Azha on June 6
The crescent moon of the Islamic month of Dhul Hijjah has been sighted in Saudi Arabia. As a result, the month will begin on Wednesday, May 28. Consequently, Eid-ul-Azha will be celebrated on the 10th of Dhul Hijjah, which falls on June 6.
Alongside Saudi Arabia, the moon has also been sighted in the United Arab Emirates, Oman, and Indonesia.
According to the website Inside the Haramain, based on the Two Holy Mosques, the sighting of the moon means Dhul Hijjah will start on May 28 (Wednesday). Pilgrims will gather in the plains of Arafat on the 9th of Dhul Hijjah (June 5), and Eid-ul-Azha will be celebrated on June 6.
On the Day of Arafat, pilgrims congregate at Mount Arafat and the surrounding plains, chanting “Labbayk Allahumma Labbayk” (Here I am, O Allah, here I am). The Day of Arafat is the second day of Hajj. Those who are not performing Hajj often observe a fast on this day.
The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) delivered his final sermon on the plains of Arafat, known as the Farewell Sermon.
Meanwhile, Pakistan’s moon-sighting committee convened today, but the moon was not sighted there. Therefore, people in Pakistan will observe Eid-ul-Azha on June 7 by offering animal sacrifices.
