Countdown to Ramadan begins

Update : 20 Jan 2026, 20:55

The start of the holy month of Ramadan this year is approaching, which is also subject to the sighting of the moon. Based on the moon sighting, the holy month is expected to begin on February 19 or 20.

On Tuesday (January 20), the Islamic Foundation published the sehri and iftar schedule for Ramadan this year.

The schedule was finalized by the country’s leading muftis under the leadership of the khatib of the Baitul Mukarram National Mosque, the Islamic Foundation said.

According to the schedule, on the first day of Ramadan (February 19), the last time for sehri in Dhaka will be 5:12 am, while iftar will be at 5:58 pm.

However, depending on distance, people in different parts of the country will observe sehri and iftar by adding up to a maximum of nine minutes or subtracting up to nine minutes from Dhaka’s timings, the Islamic Foundation said.

Officials of the Religious Outreach (Deeni Dawat) Department said that the sehri and iftar schedules for other divisions and districts will be published by the Islamic Foundation’s divisional and district offices.

It is worth noting that the Hijri months are determined by the sighting of the moon. Therefore, depending on the moon sighting, the schedule may shift by a day. At present, the Muslim world is observing the month of Rajab and has begun preparations for Ramadan.
