Winter makes a comeback

Update : 30 Jan 2026, 22:23

Although the intensity of winter has eased slightly across the country over the past few days, the Bangladesh Meteorological Department has warned that temperatures may drop again, intensifying the cold. Over the next five days, temperatures across the country may fluctuate—falling at times, remaining unchanged at others, and possibly rising on some days, the agency said.

This information was shared in a special forecast issued on Friday (30 January) at 9:00am, covering the next 120 hours.

According to the forecast, the weather across the country is likely to remain dry over the next five days, with temporarily partly cloudy skies. During this period, light to moderate fog may form in some areas of the country from late night to morning.

Meanwhile, the country’s lowest temperature was recorded at 6:00am today at 11.4 degrees Celsius in Rajarhat, Kurigram.

In a detailed temperature outlook, the Meteorological Department said that on Friday and Saturday (31 January), night temperatures may fall slightly across the country, while daytime temperatures are expected to remain nearly unchanged. On Sunday, 1 February, both day and night temperatures are likely to remain almost the same. However, from Monday, 2 February, night temperatures may begin to fall slightly again, further intensifying the winter chill. From Tuesday, 3 February, both daytime and nighttime temperatures may rise slightly once more, the office added.

The Meteorological Department also noted that an extended part of the sub-continental high-pressure system is located over West Bengal and adjoining areas. The seasonal low-pressure system lies over the southern Bay of Bengal, with an extension stretching into the northeastern Bay.

Regarding the extended five-day outlook, the department said no significant change in weather conditions is expected during this period.
