As the conflict between Iran, United States, and Israel intensifies, a shortage in global oil supply and price volatility have emerged in the world market. In this situation, Thailand and Vietnam have urged government employees to work from home in order to conserve energy.
Thailand has asked government offices to allow employees to work remotely or from home if necessary to cope with the impact of the energy crisis. In addition, government offices have been instructed to set air conditioner temperatures at 26°C to reduce electricity consumption, according to an Al Jazeera report.
Officials have also been urged to avoid unnecessary overseas travel to cut energy expenses.
Neighboring Vietnam has taken several steps as well to address the energy crisis. The government has removed tariffs on several imported petroleum products to reduce fuel shortages and stabilize the domestic market. At the same time, companies have been advised to allow employees to work from home.
People in the capital Hanoi have also been urged to limit the use of private vehicles. Instead, they are being encouraged to use public transportation, ride bicycles, or adopt carpooling as alternative options.
