Ruling party Chief Whip Nurul Islam Moni has said that residences will be allocated to members of the 13th National Parliament by April 10. He stated that most MPs will receive accommodation facilities.
Ministers, state ministers, the chief whip, whips, and the speaker already have separate housing arrangements. Efforts will be made to arrange accommodation for others as well. The allocation will be made by the 10th so that necessary purchases can be completed. The committee will meet again on March 30.
He shared this information with journalists on Saturday (March 28) after the first meeting of the parliamentary committee held at the parliament building.
The chief whip told reporters that an investigation committee has been formed under the leadership of the Sergeant-at-Arms. “We suspect that there has been some sabotage here. We have also invited experts from BUET to address the problems related to the sound system.”
In response to a question, the chief whip said that there have been complaints about the headphones from everyone, including himself. “It is not possible to listen to parliament proceedings wearing such large, bulky headphones. They make the head and ears feel hot. This will be changed.”
He added that the investigation committee will examine two issues—whether there was any sabotage, and what exactly is wrong with the sound system and how it can be fixed.
Meanwhile, on March 12, during the first sitting of the 13th National Parliament, the session had to be temporarily suspended due to malfunctioning audio equipment. At the following day’s meeting, MP Shahjahan Chowdhury of Jamaat also expressed frustration over the headphones and sound system.
It is worth noting that on March 12, the opening day of the 13th National Parliament, this 11-member “Parliament Committee” was formed with Chief Whip Nurul Islam Moni as its chair. The main responsibility of the committee is to oversee members’ facilities and the internal management of the parliament building. Committee members and relevant officials were present at today’s meeting.
