In the first four days of April this year, a significant increase has been observed in the inflow of expatriate income, or remittances, in the country. During this period, a total of 339 million US dollars in remittances was received, which is approximately equivalent to 41.358 billion Bangladeshi taka (calculated at 122 taka per dollar). As a result, more than 1 billion taka in remittances is entering the country on average every day.
On Sunday afternoon, Bangladesh Bank spokesperson Arif Hossain Khan shared this information.
According to data from the central bank, during the same period last year (the first four days of April), remittances amounted to only 65 million US dollars. In comparison, this year has seen a growth of approximately 425.30 percent.
Meanwhile, from July 1 of the current fiscal year to April 4, total remittances reached 26.548 billion US dollars, whereas during the same period in the previous fiscal year, the amount was 21.85 billion US dollars. Accordingly, remittance inflows have increased by 21.50 percent.
