Heavy downpours likely this week

Due to active monsoon conditions over the northern region, rainfall is likely to continue across different parts of the country over the next five days. The Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) has also forecast that some areas may experience moderately heavy to very heavy rainfall during this period.

This information was provided in a weather forecast signed by meteorologist Dr. Md. Omar Faruk on Monday.

According to the Met Office, during the next 24 hours, most places in the Rajshahi, Rangpur, Dhaka, Mymensingh, Barishal, Chattogram, and Sylhet divisions, as well as many places in the Khulna division, may experience light to moderate rain or thundershowers accompanied by temporary gusty winds. Additionally, moderately heavy to very heavy rainfall may occur in some parts of the country. Daytime and nighttime temperatures are expected to decrease slightly nationwide.

For the 24-hour period beginning at 9:00 a.m. on Tuesday (21 July), most places in the Rajshahi, Rangpur, Dhaka, Mymensingh, Barishal, Chattogram, and Sylhet divisions, and many places in the Khulna division, may experience light to moderate rain or thundershowers with temporary gusty winds. Some areas across the country may also receive moderately heavy to heavy rainfall, while day and night temperatures are expected to remain nearly unchanged.

For the 24-hour period beginning at 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday (22 July), most places in the Khulna, Barishal, and Chattogram divisions, and many places in the Rajshahi, Rangpur, Dhaka, Mymensingh, and Sylhet divisions, may experience light to moderate rain or thundershowers with temporary gusty winds. Some areas may receive moderately heavy to heavy rainfall, and temperatures are expected to remain nearly unchanged throughout the country.

For the 24-hour period beginning at 9:00 a.m. on 23 July, most places in the Khulna, Barishal, and Chattogram divisions, and many places in the Rangpur, Rajshahi, Dhaka, Mymensingh, and Sylhet divisions, may experience light to moderate rain or thundershowers with temporary gusty winds. Some locations in the Khulna, Barishal, and Chattogram divisions may experience moderately heavy to heavy rainfall, while day and night temperatures are expected to remain nearly unchanged nationwide.

For the 24-hour period beginning at 9:00 a.m. on 24 July, most places in the Khulna, Barishal, and Chattogram divisions, and many places in the Rangpur, Rajshahi, Dhaka, Mymensingh, and Sylhet divisions, may experience light to moderate rain or thundershowers with temporary gusty winds. Some areas in the Khulna, Barishal, and Chattogram divisions may also receive moderately heavy to heavy rainfall, while day and night temperatures are expected to remain nearly unchanged across the country.

The Meteorological Department also stated that the current trend of rainfall is likely to continue beyond the next five days.
