Robbers gang-rape passenger after taking control of bus in Tangail

A group of robbers gang raped a female passenger after hijacking a bus in Tangail early hours of Wednesday.

They also looted valuables of the passengers. "The incident took place in the Raktipara area of Tangail's Madhupur upazila off the Dhaka-Tangail Highway during the early hours of Wednesday," said Mazharul Amin, officer-in-charge of Madhupur Police Station.

The 30-year-old victim has been admitted to Upazila Health Complex.

Quoting passengers, Madhupur Police Station OC Mohammad Majharul Amin said the bus belonged to 'Eagle Paribahan' with 30-35 people on board, was heading to Dhaka from Kushtia took a break when it reached near Sirajganj. After few minutes of break, the vehicles started its journey. Then a gang of 10-12 youths boarded the bus from the mid of the way.

They blindfolded the passengers and bus staff, tied their hands and eyes with ropes, and looted valuables from them, including cash, mobile phone sets and gold ornaments. They also gang raped a woman inside the bus keeping all the passengers hostage for three hours.

Later, the gang fled away after overturning the moving bus in a sand pit near the Raktipara Jame Masjid.

Being informed, Madhupur police rescued the passengers and recovered some lethal weapons from the bus, said SI Enamul Haque.

A team of detectives started investigation at the scene from 5pm on Wednesday. Police are questioning the victim passengers.

One of the passengers filed a case accusing some unknown persons.

Police arrested Raja Mia, the reported mastermind behind the crime – during a drive in the New Bus Stand area of ​​Tangail city on Thursday morning.
