The much-anticipated Bangladesh-China Friendship Bridge over Kacha river in Pirojpur will be inaugurated by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on September 4.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will inaugurate this bridge virtually from Ganabhaban. And at the same time, thousands of people will be present at the Pirojpur end of the bridge and will enjoy the inauguration ceremony of the Premier.
Locally known as Bekutia Setu, it has been named Bangamata Begum Fazilatun Nesa Mujib 8th Bangladesh-China Friendship Bridge.
The bridge built on the Kacha River on the Barishal-Khulna regional highway has been named the “Bangamata Begum Fazilatunnesa Mujib Eighth Bangladesh-China Friendship Bridge”. With the inauguration of this bridge, there will be no more obstacles in the direct road communication of the 21 districts across the Padma with entire Bangladesh including the capital Dhaka.
After opening, the bridge will connect Pirojpur with southeastern districts of the country as well as mitigate the unemployment problem of the country by boosting the economy of the district.
The construction cost of the project is Tk894 crore, of which, China provided Tk654.79 crore as grant.
