Rohingya youth killed, 6 injured in Myanmar firing along Bangladesh border

A Rohingya youth was killed and six others were injured at a Rohingya camp at a location near Bangladesh-Myanmar border under Naikhongchhari in Bandarban on Friday as Myanmar fired mortar shells towards Bangladesh.

Mohammad Ikbal, 17, died being hit by a shell, Rohingya leader Dil Mohammad told over phone.

The death was confirmed by Bandarban additional police superintendent Nazim Uddin.

The injured were being treated at the field hospital run by the Medicines Sans Frontiers in Ukhiya.

The incident took place anytime between 8:00pm and 8:30pm along the Myanmar border of Konarpara under Naikyangchhari in Bandarban.

"We can hear sound of shelling and fighter crafts hovering," said a Rohingya man from the bordering area.
